Sex assault case involving NC State fraternity closed By WRAL

March 10, 2015

North Carolina State University campus police have closed an investigation into a student's report that she was sexually assaulted at a fraternity party in January.

Responding Tuesday to a WRAL News request about the number of sexual assaults this school year on the Raleigh campus, a university spokesman said detectives closed case after exhausting all leads and that no one was charged.

The claim involved a Jan. 19 party hosted by the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

According to data provided by the university, campus police have investigated seven other sex-related crimes, including two rapes, since August.

All of those cases were closed after leads were exhausted or prosecutors declined to take them to trial or the claims were determined to be unfounded.

Investigators, however, are still investigating a case in which a woman said she was sexually assaulted early Sunday at a party at the Alpha Tau Omega house on Varsity Drive.

The fraternity's local chapter has not commented, but the national chapter has said it is taking the report seriously and has launched its own investigation into what happened.
